Our Mission

The Association was formed primarily to raise funds for scholarships to award descendants of those who attended Loudoun Training and/or Douglass High School.

Today, the Board is served by 16 members. Over $200,000 has been awarded in scholarships to date. The Association has and continues to make yearly contributions in volunteer time and money to community organizations to include Christmas in April, County Holiday Coalition, the annual “I Have A Dream MLK March”, the Salvation Army, and other organizations as needed. The Association holds a Life Membership in the NAACP and has provided donations to the Loudoun Museum’s effort to preserve slave quarters in Loudoun County, donations for the Leesburg African American Walking Tour, Interfaith Relief, and Hospice of Northern Virginia. When called upon the Association has donated funds to the Red Cross for hurricane and flood victims. Donations are given on a case-by-case basis, to families going through a financial crisis because of sickness or other personal tragedies.

Our History

The Loudoun/Douglass High School Alumni Association, a 501(C)3 organization, was formed in 1985.

A conversation took place between Mary Lee Perry and Charles “Tommy” Stinger, class of 1953, about getting all of the graduates of Douglass High School, 1941-1968 together for a school reunion.

The reunion was held the summer of 1985 in Winchester, VA.
Following this reunion, the planning committee decided to include those graduates who attended the Loudoun Training School, from the years 1935-1940. The school was located in Leesburg on Union Street, and the building is still standing today.

In 1993, Douglass High School was inducted into the State and National Registers as a historic landmark.  A plaque designed by Board Member Reginald Simms, class of 1955, is located on the cornerstone of the building to commemorate this event.

Our Scholarships

The Association currently awards eight $1,000 scholarship awards, but this amount could change, depending on our available funds.  The board holds the following fundraisers; dances, yard sales, golf tournaments, and offers the Giving Club for members to join.  The LDAA is a 501C organization.  The annual dues are $15.00 a year.

The Association hosts an Annual Picinic on the second Saturday of July each year, as well as the Scholarship Awards ceremony.  The picnic is held at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg, Virginia.

Since the existence of LDAA, we have had very hard working and dedicated board members helping us.  As time passes, we have had to say farewell to some of those members as they continue with other endeavors.

Mary Randolph, Ann Daye, Guthrie Ashton, James Hampton, Marion Simms, and Terri Randolph are members that we lost in 2019.  We thank you for your tireless work ethic and dedication. You have all helped LDAA grow into the wonderful organization that it has become and we hope to continue with the same passion that you have shown.

We also, thank those former members no longer with us, who served on the Board of Directors, to include Elijah Corum, Samuel Thomas, Philip Cook, Edith Sims, Charles (Tommy) Stinger, Ruth Davis, Mack Sims, and Laura Powell. Our work continues and the Board is very thankful for the support from the members, friends, family, and churches to realize the dream of those classmates who had a vision.

Help us to keep the vision alive!
